Welcome to

The Sentinel Recovery House

Our Mission

At The Sentinel Recovery House, our mission is to provide a safe, structured, peer-based, and inclusive recovery residence for men ages 21 and older who are committed to sobriety-based living.  We exist to elevate recovery from day-to-day survival to intentional living.

The Sentinel is a home where equality, compassion, and accountability coexist, creating a safe and inclusive environment where every resident has the opportunity to grow. Every individual here is treated with dignity and respect - regardless of ethnicity, beliefs, culture, religion, or sexual orientation.

Recovery Beyond Abstinence

Recovery is about more than abstaining from substances - it’s about rediscovering who you are and building a life that feels meaningful.

In the beginning, sobriety can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and uncertain. At The Sentinel, we meet that moment with structure, support, and community - creating a culture where recovery becomes intentional living and lasting transformation. Together, men reclaim their lives, rediscover their identity, and move forward with purpose.

Within our structured, upscale environment, residents develop the habits and life skills needed to sustain long-term recovery and independence.

A Place Recovery Thrives

Recovery is not meant to be lived alone - it is strengthened through connection.  Residents are expected and held accountable to actively participate in established recovery pathways - such as 12-step fellowships, mindfulness groups, or other approved programs.  These programs and the fellowship they provide are an essential part of building a solid foundation of recovery.

East Nashville hosts a strong and active recovery community, with multiple 12-step and other sobriety-based meetings nearby - including Wild Hearts Meditation Center and The Home Church, both of which host recovery meetings multiple times per week.

Local meetings and community resources provide ongoing opportunities for engagement and support.  Together, these elements create more than structure - they create momentum.  A rhythm of living that deepens community integration and lays the groundwork for lasting growth well beyond residency.

The Sentinel offers residents support in their sobriety through our Applied Recovery Skills Program™ - which includes daily structure, agreed-upon boundaries and guidelines, random drug testing, shared responsibilities that create an environment of intentional living where routine, accountability, and connection naturally develop.

The Sentinel Recovery House operates in alignment with nationally recognized recovery residence standards established by the Tennessee Alliance of Recovery Residences (TN-ARR) and the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR), while adhering to all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines - ensuring a recovery environment grounded in safety, transparency, accountability, and respect for resident rights

As someone in recovery myself, this work is deeply personal to me. Living a sober life has been one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of my life, and creating The Sentinel Recovery House is an opportunity to give back and help others rebuild healthy, stable, and purposeful lives.

One of my core beliefs is that recovery involves more than simply abstaining from substances — it also involves rebuilding daily structure, emotional wellness, physical health, personal responsibility, and meaningful connection. The Sentinel was created to provide a supportive, structured, and recovery-focused environment where individuals can continue building a strong foundation for long-term recovery and personal growth.

A Whole-Person Approach to Recovery Living

Part of what sets The Sentinel Recovery House apart is our wellness-focused, whole-person approach to sober living. We strongly support traditional recovery pathways such as 12-step participation, sponsorship, therapy, outpatient care, mindfulness groups, and other established recovery supports.

At the same time, we believe recovery is also supported by healthy routines, physical wellness, emotional awareness, personal growth, mindfulness, meaningful connections, and balanced daily living. Our home incorporates wellness-oriented amenities and supportive lifestyle practices intended to help residents reduce stress, reconnect with themselves, and build healthier patterns while living in recovery.

The Sentinel is not a clinical treatment program. It is a structured, peer-to-peer recovery residence designed to complement outside treatment, therapy, sponsorship, and community-based recovery support.

The Sentinel Community Philosophy

The Sentinel Recovery House is first and foremost a home - a shared living environment where individuals committed to sobriety choose to live together in support of their recovery. The Sentinel Recovery House is a substance (drugs and alcohol) free home.  All residents agree to live a clean and sober life and to follow our house agreements in support of creating a healthy space for all.

At The Sentinel, individuals are not simply occupants of a house, they are members of a recovery home - something closer to a chosen family - working together to build lives in recovery - grounded in sobriety, dignity, and personal growth.  The Sentinel is a residence grounded in the Social Model of recovery.

Brian Storrs, our founder along with an onsite lead resident, both reside within the home and together provide daily structure, accountability, and community leadership.  Their roles are rooted in peer-based support - offering guidance, connection, and a steady framework that supports each resident’s individual recovery journey.

Recovery at The Sentinel is not built on coercion, hierarchy, or rigid programming.  Instead, it grows through voluntary participation, shared accountability, and the collective wisdom of lived recovery experience.  Residents are encouraged to be active participants in the life of the home, contributing to a culture of respect, responsibility, and intentional living. Through group conscience, peer support, and mutual encouragement, residents work together to maintain a stable and supportive environment for long-term recovery.

Our environment is intentionally designed to support residents who are:

  • Male

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Medically and mentally stable upon move-in

  • Not experiencing active detoxification or withdrawal symptoms at the time of admission

  • Substance-free for a minimum of 72 hours prior to move-in

  • Have completed a detoxification program, residential treatment, or an equivalent level of care, and/or are actively participating in an ongoing recovery program such as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), outpatient treatment, 12-step program, sponsorship/mentorship, or other approved recovery pathways

  • Committed to living in a shared, community-based environment rooted in mutual respect and accountability.
